Student Leaders React to Appointment of Former NANS President into the Presidency

Some student leaders nationwide have reacted to the appointment of Sunday Asefon, former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Students Engagements.

His appointment was conveyed in a letter dated October 31, 2023, from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Reacting in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Saturday, the student leaders, under the aegis of The G7, described his appointment as a round peg in a round hole.

According to the statement signed by the Former Special Assistant on Students Affairs to Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Olusegun Clement, it was stated that Tinubu made the right choice in choosing Asefon as the man to interact with Nigerian students on his behalf.

According to Clement, Asefon’s antecedents as the immediate past NANS President are a testimony that he would deliver on his mandate.

The student leader assured Tinubu that students across the nation would do everything to support his government henceforth.

We have received the news of the appointment of the former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comrade Sunday Asefon, as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Students engagements.

“This development have rekindled the trust of the Nigerian students and youths in the government of Mr Tinubu. This move to us, is a testament that Mr President understands the principles of “ Putting a round peg in a round hole.”

“Not just his achievements while in office as the president of NANS but his person whom I have known for years, will make me quickly align with the president that Mr Asefon will deliver on his new appointment.

“I, chief Clement, G7 and other students leaders in Nigeria particularly in the Southwest region, however, express our joy to the president, assuring that our structures across the country will do everything possible to support your government henceforth,” Clement’s statement read partly.
