Comrade Umar Barambu of the Federal University, Dutse had been elected as the new President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).
Barambu, a student of Economics and Development Studies got 292 votes to defeat his closest rival, Umar Farouk Lawan who scored only 8 votes.
The election was held at the old parade ground, Abuja.
Barambu is a former students’ union president, joint campus committee chairman and Zone A cordinator.
He is to succeed Asefon Sunday Dayo, the outgoing NANS President.
His school has sent him a congratulatory message:

The association also elected former NANS JCC Ondo chairman, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez as its Vice President, External Affairs.
Akinteye polled 245 votes to defeat his only rival, Dan Fodio who polled 43 votes.
Reports say, the new NANS president has hit the ground running as he is scheduled to meet the Federal Government over th lingering ASUU strike.
