The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that SS3 and JSS3 will resume on August 4, 2020.
This givest them 2 weeks to to prepare for the WAEC exams billed to commence on the 17th of August.
The decision was taken today, 27th July after a virtual joint consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education and Commissioners of Education from the 36 states. Also at the meeting were the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Chief Executives of examination bodies and proprietors of private schools.
Director, Press and Public Relations, Ben Bem Goong said in a statement that “it was agreed that the exit classes (SS3 and JSS3) should resume immediately after the Sallah break from August 4, 2020 to enable them to prepare for the WAEC examination scheduled to commence from the 17th of August, 2020.”

A resolution was also reached at the meeting to appeal to the Federal Government through the Presidential Task Force on #COVID19 and public-spirited Nigerians to assist schools across the country with measures that should facilitate the safe resumption of schools.
A second meeting was scheduled for tomorrow, July 28 between the Federal Ministry of Education, NECO, NBAIS, NABTEB and Chief Executives of examination bodies. The meeting will harmonise the examination dates for the listed Nigerian exit exams. The decision taken at that meeting will be promptly conveyed to stakeholders by the Education Ministry.
All Nigerian schools were ordered closed by the Minister of Education on the 19th of March 2020 to curb the spread of covid19.
