Nigerians who are still stranded in the war-torn nation of Sudan have raised an alarm after the authorities of the university where they took refuge ordered them to leave the premises.
They called on the Nigerian government to come to their aid and evacuate them from the country as the African International University that accommodated them has issued an ultimatum.
Abdurazak Olaniyi Oladotun, a teacher at Sudan, who made the appeal in a short video obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, disclosed that after a set of vehicles left with some Nigerians to Egypt on Wednesday morning, no other vehicle has returned to evacuate other Nigerians.
Oladotun lamented that there had been missing gaps in communication, while pleading with the officials of the embassy to forgive the wrongs the youths might have committed for the sake of children and pregnant women among them and save their lives.
He said that he had to relocate to the capital city from the state where he lived for the purpose of evacuation announced by the embassy but since his arrival, there has been no plan in sight to rescue them.
A memo purportedly circulated by the embassy appears not have made any impact.
According to Oladotun, “Since five days ago we have been informed that there will be evacuation due to the crisis in Sudan, specifically at the capital city called Khartoum. We really appreciated that, we never expected it, it came at the right time. However there have been lapses in communication and when the embassy eventually met with us they assured us and we were very happy.
“However, afterwards things have not been going on well. On Wednesday a set of vehicle left to Egypt. We were promised that another 10 will come at that particular day Wednesday but they never showed up. Following day Thursday which was yesterday we were promised that 10 vehicles will come in the morning another 10 will come in the evening also it didn’t show up.”
The situation became really worrisome when the university where stranded Nigerians were currently staying, African International University asked them to vacate the premises.
Now today is Friday the premises where we are is African International University where they have the majority of the Nigerian students, because of that other Nigerians have been invited to locate to come around here as you can see there are bags of students.
“Now the major challenge we are having now is, we need to move out of this place. The university staff has given us an ultimatum that is enough that we need to leave. We need to leave please save us. We have children among us as you can see this is one of my sons.
“We have those children that are two weeks old. We have pregnant women among us there is a video I made earlier and I am making another one now. Please we need your help; those in charge should please see us through. We are pleading with the Nigerian embassy; please they shouldn’t be angry with the youths; whatever they might have said, whatever that might have happened; we just need to get out from this place; we need your cooperation, please Nigerian government.”
