Supreme Court Announces Date to Hold Special Session for Late Justice Ayoola

The Supreme Court has announced that it will hold a valedictory court session to honour the late Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola CON, CRG, JSC, (Rtd).

The session is scheduled for Monday, November 11, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court.

Justice Ayoola passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 20, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on October 27, 1933, in Ilesha, Osun State, he was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of the defunct Western Nigeria on February 1, 1976. He served as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria from November 25, 1998, until his retirement on October 27, 2003, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.

Throughout his distinguished career, Justice Ayoola held several prominent positions, including serving as the Chief Justice of The Gambia, President of the Court of Appeal of The Seychelles, and Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Justice Emman Ayoola was also Chief Justice of The Gambia & Justice of the Supreme Court of #Nigeria before becoming president of the @UN-supported Special Court for Sierra Leone. He was also my illustrious predecessor as Chair of @NhrcNigeria.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, will preside over the special court session. As is customary, she will pay tribute to the late Justice Emmanuel Ayoola alongside other key stakeholders in the nation’s justice sector.
