Supreme Court Extends Deadline for Old Naira Notes

News - Women's Perspective

The Supreme Court has issued a directive extending the lifespan of the N200, N500 and N1000 notes.

The old notes were redesigned under the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a ruling on Wednesday morning, a panel of the apex court ordered that the old notes remain legal tender until necessary facilities are put in place for their replacement.

In March 2023, the supreme court had extended the deadline to phase out old naira notes to December 31, 2023.

By November 21, the federal government filed an application before the supreme court seeking an extension for old naira notes to remain in circulation.
