A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that Senator Ali Ndume be remanded in prison.
His offence is his failure to produce former Chairman of the defunct Pension Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina
Some Nigerians insist that his offence is not different from that of @SenatorAbaribe who has also failed to produce Nnamdi Kalu of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Senator Ndume will remain in the correctional centre until he fulfils his bail bond of N500 million.
Justice Okon Abang also ordered the Federal Government to sell Senator Ndume’s property at Asokoro to recover the N500 million.
He added that Ndume’s surety will be released from Kuje correctional centre once he pays up the N500 million to the government.
Maina’s trail in absentia has however been adjourned to 24th November. Ndume’s lawyer, Marcel Our has vowed to appeal the court ruling.
He has continually failed to appear court with every sitting.
Abdulrasheed Maina was dismissed from the Civil Service Commission in 2013 by the Head of Service for abandoning and absconding from his duty post.
He was accused of being involved in a N2 billion pension fraud following an investigation by the Senate Joint Committee on Public Service Establishment.
Maina was subsequently declared wanted by the police and a warrant of arrested issued against him following his sudden disappearance.
Curiously, he returned to Civil Service surreptitiously and was reinstated as Director of Interior.
According to him, he returned to government to help the president fight corruption.
His sudden re-appearance and reinstatement led to a feud between late Abba Kyari, the then Chief of Staff to the President and the former Head of Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita.
The embarrassment compelled the presidency to order Maina’s dismissal as well as an investigation into his re-appearnce and reinstatement.
