A tanker laden with petrol exploded at the Gbagada axis of the Oshodi – Gbagada Expressway this morning.
Reports say that the tanker fell and rolled on its side on top of the canal bridge linking Anthony and Westex, by TREM headquarters.
The petrol was gushing out when the explosion occurred, perhaps from a spark in the fallen tanker. A massive explosion was heard many kilometres from the scene of the accident.
The accident is coming less than 24 hours after another explosion occurred within the same spot.
Fire fighters, The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency, (LASTMA), Lagos State Environmental Management Agency, and have been able to contain any major disaster that the explosion and spilling petrol may have caused.
The remaining fuel has been emptied while the built up traffic is being coordinated by relevant agencies. The entire area has also been cordoned off by LASTMA causing massive vehicular traffic in adjoining roads.
It is recommended that commuters plan their journey and possibly, avoid the axis completely for the whole of Saturday afternoon.
This is more so if anyone is coming from the airport to connect the 3rd Mainland Bridge through Gbagada
