The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to supply electricity to the Republic of Chad.
This follows a recent request by the West African Country.
The information was disclosed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria on Sunday following a meeting held last week to discuss the possibility of connecting the Republic of Chad to the national grid.
Available power in Nigeria hangs between 3,000 and 4,550 megawatts while it currently supplies neighbouring Benin, Togo and Niger Republic.
Punch reports that 11 out of 27 plants of the National grid did not produce electricity as of Sunday, 25th October.
The idle plants comprise Omotoso II, Geregu II, Sapele II, Ihovbo, Gbarian, Ibom Power, AES, ASCO and Trans-Amadi.
The TCN confirmed the possibility of Nigeria supplying power to Chad, in its Twitter handle with the caption
MEETING BETWEEN MINISTRY OF POWER, TCN, AND THE CHADIAN MINISTER OF ENERGY, MRS RAMATOU MAHAMAT HOUTOUIN TO DISCUSS THE POSSIBILITIES OF CONNECTING THE REPUBLIC OF CHAD TO THE NIGERIAN NATIONAL GRID. ON WEDNESDAY, 21ST OCTOBER, 2020
Expectedly, Nigerians who continue to suffer poor electricity supply have reacted:
