A teacher in Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School, Asaba, Delta State has been arrested for flogging a 19-month old pupil to death.
Emeka Nwogbo is alleged to have flogged the toddler on Monday leaving several marks of the cane on his body.
A now viral video shows the distraught mother sitting beside her child in the hospital before he passed away.
She lamented that the school did not check on her son since the brutal beating by teacher Nwogbo.
According to the her, “My son has not been himself since the incident, this is him on the hospital bed receiving drip after the incident in the school and up until now, the school has not called to know how he is faring or how it’s going.”
Unfortunately, the pupil who had been receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Asaba, died on Saturday, 12th of February.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Edafe Bright confirmed the incident saying that, “Yes, it’s true. The pupil died yesterday (Saturday) morning. We have arrested the teacher.
“He’s currently in our custody and the investigation into the matter continues. He would be charged to court as soon as possible”
The tragic incident in Asaba comes 2 days after a 24-month old toddler was given 24 strokes of the cane for failing to recite the alphabets
