Olajide Sowore was laid to rest on Thursday, 9th of September in his home, Kiribo in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The younger brother to the RevolutionNow activist and former African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, Jide was allegedly murdered at the Okada end of the Benin-Lagos Expressway by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.
He was on his way to the Igbinedion University where he was a student of Pharmacy.
The younger Sowore’s casket was taken from the mortuary to his family compound by young men of his community.
On hand to pay their last respect were his 2 sons and 2 daughters as his widow.
His teenage eldest son exhibited traits of an an activist similar to his uncle’s when he refused to allow the pall bearers commence the final rites until he took a final look at his father’s face.
The pall bearers obliged him and opened the casket. Satisfied that it was indeed his father, he allowed the ceremony to go on.
Unfortunately, Omoyele Sowore could not attend the burial because a Federal High Court Judge, Ijeoma Ojukwu had restricted his movement to Abuja.
In a statement monitored on Daily Independent Sowore wrote that, “Nigerian Government and its agencies hasn’t done anything to investigate the murder of my brother.“
He thanked everyone who commiserated with him and advised them reasons he could not attend the burial.
According to him, “Again, thank you for reaching out with great love and kind words of consolation, support and solidarity over the tragic but still painful death of my dearest brother, Felix Olajide Sowore.
“I send you loads of gratitude from the bottom of my heart and that of my family
“We should report to the public that despite the noise from the Nigerian Government officials promising to ‘ ‘apprehend’ my brother’s killers, we are not aware any security agencies carrying out rescue Otto free those purportedly abducted or investigating the identity of Jide’s murderers.
“It is not as though we expect anything from the failed Nigerian system that took our brother’s life, I feel that I owe you all an update on these matters.
“I won’t be able to attend because the despicable Muhammadu Buhari regime has since December 2019 restricted me by a court order issued by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu to Abuja.”
