There is growing tension 5 farmers are alleged to have been murdered by unknown gunmen while going to their farm in Modakeke town, Osun State.
Reports say that the farmers were killed in the bush this morning close to their farm in Toro village.
A community leader in Modakeke, Femi Eluyinka confirmed the incident to Punch saying that some residents in collaboration with the police have evacuated the bodies of the victims.
Eluyinka added that there is palpable tension in the town as a result of the murders.
According to him;
“Police operatives have arrived. Tension is on the rise. Five of them were indigenes of Modakeke and they were killed this morning along Toro road. They were heading to their farm.“
Spokesperson of the Police Command, Yemisi Opalola said that;
“We head some people were killed and the Commissioner of Police has deployed more policemen to the area.”
Sources say that the management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has shut its gates following the incident and the growing tension.
