The crisis rocking the selection of the next Olu of Warri still rages on as 2 princes backed by powerful players in the kingdom are in contention.
While billionaire businessman, Ayiri Emami is opposed to the crowning of Prince Tsola Emiko as the 21st Olu, Chief Mene, a strong force and respected traditional chief warns that if Oyowoli, is allowed to be crowned, the oracle predicts that he will die within a short time.
The Ologbotsere of Warri, Chief Ayiri Emami has filed a lawsuit challenging Emiko’s selection and his own removal as the Ologbotsere by the Council of Chiefs.
He based his suit on a 1979 Edict of the old Bendel State which is applicable to the present Delta, stating that it stipulates the method of ascension to the throne.
The choice of Tsola and its opposition led by Chief Ayiri is based on the fact that Tsola’s mother is from Yoruba land.
Ayiri argued that the Edict only recognises an Olu whose mother is either from Itsekiri or Edo State, a situation that disqualifies Tsola whose mother is Yoruba. They insist that Oyowoli who is the first son of the late Ogiame Ikenwoli should be crowned.
The Edict has however, been widely rejected by majority of Itsekiris, reports say.
The of 21st of August 2021 is the set date for the coronation of the new Olu and there is still no end in sight to the dispute.
However, the Ogwaolusan of Warri, Chief Mene Brown has justified the choice of Tsola Emiko while Chief Robinson Ariyo, a lawyer and the Egogo of Warri Kingdom gives the legal angle to the 1979 Edict.
Tsola Emiko, son of Ogiame Atuwatse II and the 19th Olu of Warri was picked on the 5th of April as the the Olu-designate by the council of chiefs following the death of Ogiame Ikenwoli in December 2020.
Chief Mene brown cited a public validation carried out by 3 prominent oracles where each of them unanimously confirmed Tsola as the new Olu.
there are also reports that Oyowoli has commenced the traditional rites in Sapele that precede his envisaged coronation by the 14th of August by his supporters.
