The Igbo for President Solidarity Group has listed 11 strong Igbo politicians that are viable for the 2023 presidency.
Interestingly, the group is headed by a Yoruba man, Dr Olukayode Oshiariyo.
The group noted that a president from the South-East extraction was long overdue. It added that the 11 listed politicians are “qualified to be presented as presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.”
According to them “IPSC will engage in consultations across the six geo-political zones, visitation to Emirs, Obas, Eze, Obi and chiefs to discuss and examine the characters and integrity of the eleven persons suggested.”
Among the strong politicians listed are:
- Dr Chris Ngige
- Peter Obi
- Dr Ogbonnaya Onu
- Rochas Okorocha
- Dave Umahi
- Ike Ekweremadu
- Enyinnaya Abaribe
- Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi
- Ifeanyi Uba
- Chris Moghalu
- Orji Uzor Kalu
Oshiariyo added that “since 1999, South-West, North-West, and South-South have produced presidents, conventionally, power rotates for equity and justice as implied in the Principles of Federal Character.
“Therefore, in 2023, passionate consideration should be accorded the South-East as the only zone in the Southern Region that has yet to produce a candidate,” he added.
South-South Elder Statesman, Chief Edwin Clark has also argued that it was time to have an Igbo president. Unfortunately, a Northern Elder, very close friend and relative of President Muhammadu Buhari believes that place of origin should not be a consideration in the 2023 presidency, rather, competence should take the front burner.
