The Third Mainland Bridge will be reopened at midnight after it was closed at midnight on Christmas Day.
Mr Olukayode Popoola, Federal Controller of Works, Lagos confirmed the development today, Sunday the 27th December.
According to him, the contractor completed the task within 48 hours instead of the initial projected 72-hour timeline.
Popoola said that “We have completed the casting of the 3 number expansion joints on Third Mainland Bridge.
“Therefore, the bridge shall be opened at 12:00 midnight Sunday, 27th December and no longer Monday 28th December.
“That is 48 hours and no more 72 hours.”
Repairs on portions of the bridge started earlier in the year and attracted staggered closures.
The project had a 6-month time line and divided into 2 phases of 3 months in each carriage way.
The #EndSARS protest resulted in a one-month extension. Instead of an end date of January 2021, the deadline is moved to February.
Olukayode Popoola announced last week that the bridged needed to be completely shut down this time to allow for proper casting of the joints.
He explained that vehicular movement would have impacted an effective casting.
