Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Raji Fashola has confirmed that the Third Mainland Bridge will be fully reopened to normal traffic flow by February 15.
Fashola gave the update during an inspection of construction work on major Federal Roads and Bridges in Lagos State.
The Minister also visited the portion of the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway bridge recently gutted by fire from a tanker explosion.
He said that construction work on the Third Mainland and the resultant closure to traffic has delayed scheduled maintenance work on the Falomo Bridge.
According to him, “once the Third Mainland Bridge is reopened, we will move to Falomo Bridge where the expansion joints will be replaced.”
The former Lagos State Governor did not however tell how long the repairs on the Falomo bridge will last.
The Third Mainland has been shut down since the 24th of July 2020 to enable the contractor effect repair works.
It was initially scheduled for reopening in January but the2-week #EndSARS protest compelled the Federal Government to move the date further.
The longest bridge in Africa is also the busiest in Nigeria.
