Three Injured as Hoodlums Attack Atiku’s Campaign Rally

News - Women's Perspective

At least three persons sustained injuries last Tuesday when hoodlums who are members of the Kalare boys attacked supporters of presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar during a campaign in Gombe.

Trouble started after Atiku left with his entourage via gate two of Pantami stadium for Bauchi.

The Kalare boys, armed with cutlass, swords, clubs and other dangerous weapons, pounced on supporters leaving for their homes.

Three persons were injured and three vehicles damaged as they were ambushed along Pantami stadium road

The police, manning the gate one of the stadium, quickly dispatched a detachment of operatives to the second gate to provide security for supporters.

There were also pockets of violent attacks along the Government House road.

Many supporters waited at the Pantami stadium for the police to restore peace and order as the Kalare boys blocked the route to Pantami market and Government House attacking passers-by.

Some PDP women supporters attached themselves to police vans to avoid being attacked by the thugs.

Gombe PDP Publicity Secretary Usman Muritala confirmed there is a massive division in the party.

He said he was not at the campaign ground because he was never invited

I was not on the podium and was only there as an official of the party so I sat like every other person to watch the whole show. There is a division in the party, a very big one,” he said.
