In case that has gripped the entire country and the town of Lafia in particular, Timileyin Ajayi, the suspected killer of 27-year-old Salome Adaidu, has been arraigned before Justice Simon Aboki at the High Court of Justice.

Today’s hearing marks the beginning of a trial that could bring closure to the tragic m*rder of a young youth corper.

Ajayi, who on different occasions claims to be 30, 32 and 35, stood before the court as prosecutors detailed the events leading up to the gruesome k!lling.

Salome Adaidu, a vibrant young woman with a promising future, was found d3ad under suspicious circumstances a few ago. Investigators allege that Ajayi lured her to an isolated location under false pretenses, where the heinous act was carried out.

She is alleged to have been beheaded, butchered and deboned with her body parts and organs stuffed into different bags.

During the arraignment, the prosecution presented evidence linking Ajayi to the crime, including eyewitness accounts and forensic findings. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victim and her grieving family,” the lead prosecutor stated.

Ajayi, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder. His defense counsel argued that the evidence against him was circumstantial and vowed to prove his innocence. The courtroom was tense, with Salome’s family and supporters visibly emotional as the hearing unfolded.

Justice Simon Aboki, known for his no-nonsense approach to high-profile cases, adjourned the trial to allow both parties to prepare adequately for the legal battle ahead. He emphasized the need for a fair trial, urging all involved to respect the judicial process.

The case has reignited discussions about gender-based violence and the urgent need for systemic reforms to protect women in Nigeria. Advocacy groups have called for swift justice, using Salome’s tragic death as a rallying point to demand harsher penalties for perpetrators of violence against women.

As the trial progresses, all eyes will remain on the High Court in Lafia, where the pursuit of justice for Salome Adaidu promises to be a pivotal moment in the fight against crime and violence.
