The national leader of the All Progressives Congress Presidential (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has endorsed the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a second term in office.
Sources in the Lagos chapter of the APC stated that having received Tinubu’s blessings, Sanwo-Oluwill soon make a public declaration for a second term.
Tinubu is said to have called on party members to support the governor for a second term.
According to a source, “Sanwo-Olu is coming back. I can authoritatively confirm that to you. He is likely to declare and will kick off his re-election campaign this weekend at Eagles Square, the venue of the national convention of the APC on March 26 in Abuja.
“The Governor has performed creditably well in all areas since coming to office in 2019. As a technocrat, he focused on his job as governor and allowed political leaders who ensured his emergence to run the political affairs of the state. This endeared him to many of us and we believe he should be allowed to continue the good works,” a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos said on Sunday.
ThisDay quotes another source as saying that The Jagaban of Lagos has endorsed Sanwo-Olu to get a second ticket.
The source added that contrary to earlier beliefs in some quarters, Tinubu was never against the second term ambition of Sanwo-Olu but because he had not made any clear statement, some people started thinking otherwise.
The source stated that Tinubu had done his findings and finds Sanwo-Olu as a worthy candidate.
“Yes, the coast is clear. But let’s get this straight. Tinubu has never been against Governor Sanwo-Olu’s re-election; he was not just talking. So, people started interpreting his silence to mean different things, including the fact that he might be considering dropping him. But in truth, the leader has never mooted that idea.
“Did you notice that even when certain names were dropped as possible replacement for the governor, the individuals on their own volitions came out to deny it, and not just that, many of them went on to affirm that the governor had done well and therefore, deserved re-election.
The source added that, “Besides, Baba had his own way of verifying things, beyond what is available to the ordinary person. His personal checks confirmed that the governor should come back, given a credible election, thus, corroborating his own conviction and here we are today, it is sealed.”
