Soldiers in the country were said to have appeared on Gabonese national television in Gabon to announce they have seized power.

The military officers also announced the annulment of Saturday’s election and the dissolution of the democratic government in the country.

In his reaction, Onanuga, in a post via his Twitter handle, described the coupists as greedy tyrants.

The former media aide to Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wrote: “Yet another military coup in Africa. Democracy on a roll back, no thanks to sit-tight, greedy African tyrants.”

The latest coup in Africa follows the removal of the president of Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum.

However, both the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU), which have rejected the coup in Niger, are yet to react to the coup in Gabon as of the time of filing this report.
