The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu who was absent from the town hall meeting where the 2023 presidential candidates were hosted is reported to have been at a birthday party close to the venue.
The Arise TV presidential town hall meeting held on Sunday, November 6 ahead of the 2023 polls.
Arise News Channel in conjunction with the Center for Democracy and Development (CDD) in Abuja, hosted the event which was attended by three presidential candidates, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso and PRP’s Kola Abiola.
The Peoples Democratic Party Candidate, Atiku Abubakar was represented by his running mate Ifeanyi Okowa.
Shortly after the town hall meeting began, a video of Bola Tinubu at the birthday party of his associate, retired colonel Sani Bello, some 6.4 km (an 8-minute drive) from the venue of the town hall meeting, was shared online.
Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign, Festus Keyamo, later released a statement, saying Tinubu can’t attend all events because he has a busy schedule.
On his part, the Director of Media and Communications, Bayo Onanuga told Punch that Tinubu could not attend the event due to his busy schedule.
He said, “We are in Minna now for engagement with farmers and agro-commodities groups ahead of tomorrow. The media cannot suddenly come up with a debate and wants us to drop everything we are doing to attend it. It is wrong. We also have our campaign schedule to attend to.”
