A video surfaced of the moment onlookers trooping to the scene, oblivious of more looming danger when a second defining explosion cut them down before they could flee (viewer discretion advised):

Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident to newsmen this evening.

According him, the efforts of his men with the collaboration of the Lagos State Fires Sevice, the Nigerian Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps helped to contain further devastation.

LASEMA boss said the mishap was caused by a truck laden with petroleum gas which had a lone accident resulting in the explosion. The DG also advised Lagosians to remain calm:

Dr Oke-Osanyintolu added that “the impact of the explosion led to fire on adjoining buildings and several vehicles burnt. Several persons were injured and have been taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
