Trouble appears to be brewing within the ranks of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore (MAKH) in Katsina State after the National Secretary, Saleh Alhassan described Governor Aminu Masari as a “drunkard and a tired leader.”
The leadership of the group have dissociated themselves from the comments saying it does not represent their general opinion.
Alhassan had also berated the Governor for saying that “majority of those perpetrating banditry are Fulanis.”
This comment comes after an interview with Masari hosted by Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He told the anchor, Seun Okinbaloye that, “They are the same people like me, who speak the same language like me, who profess the same religion like me.
“What we have here on ground are bandits; they are not aliens, they are people we know, they are people that have been living with us for over 100 of years.”
Masari’s remark drew a strong rebuke from National Secretary of Miyetti Allah prompting him to make the comments that the group considers offensive.
During a briefing on Friday afternoon in Katsina, the Chairman of the association in the state, Hassan Kuraye said that Alhassan “was on his own and did not seek clearance before the interview.”
Kuraye added that, “We have spoken with the national executive members and they said Saleh Alhassan did not reflect the true stand of the association on the issue.”
He described the utterances of the scribe as uncalled for and embarrassing to the entire Fulani race.
He tendered an an apology on behalf of the group to Masari and urged him to forgive and forget the “unpalatable comments” by the official.
Kuraye promised that the national president of MAKH would lead a delegation of the executive to Katsina next week to speak with Governor Masari on the matter.
