Twitter has reacted to the action taken by Nigeria’s Federal Government to suspend its operations in Nigeria.
The group describes the action as “deeply concerning” saying it is investigating the development and will come up with more updates.
Twitter’s Senior Manager, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Sarah Hart gave the statement in a mail sent to The Cable.
According to her, “The announcement by the Nigerian Government that they have suspended Twitters’s operation in Nigeria is deeply concerning.
“We’re investigating and will provide updates when we know more.”

The Minister of Information and Culture, speaking through the Minister, Lai Mohammed, in a statement on the 4th of June, suspended the operations of Twitter in Nigeria.
He said the use of the platform is capable of destabilising the corporate existence of the country.

“The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, citing the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
“The Minister said the Federal Government has also directed the National Broadcasting l Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.
