The microblogging platform, Twitter has shut down the verified account of investigative journalist, David Hundeyin.
This comes after he exposed the dual citizenship of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his page.
Over the weekend, Hundeyin leaked some private information of the former Governor of Lagos State, alleging he had dual citizenship in Nigeria and Guinea.
Angered by the revelation, supporters of Tinubu reported Hundeyin’s page accusing him of leaking private information.
Following the claim, Twitter shut down his account.
Confirming the suspension of his Twitter account on Monday, Hundeyin took to his blog account [@WestAfricaWeek] to note that his personal account was reported for “posting private information” and is “temporarily locked.”
“You may not publish or post other people’s private information without their express authorization and permission. We also prohibit threatening to expose private information or incentivizing others to do so”, Twitter’s Private information and media policy stated.
West Africa Weekly reported that, “After posting evidence of @officialABAT‘s undisclosed dual citizenship and perjurous INEC EC9 declaration, West Africa Weekly founder @DavidHundeyin‘s Twitter account has been maliciously reported for “posting private information” and is temporarily locked.”
However, Hundeyin pointed out that he did not violate Tinubu’s right of privacy as he only exposed the information of a public figure in the interest of the public:
