The Middle East Airlines aircraft wing broke slightly and got twisted by Turkish Airlines Boeing 777 as the ground staff directed it to its right parking apron at the cargo area of the airport.

Eyewitnesses say the Middle East Airlines plane was attempting to park on the apron while the Turkish Airlines aircraft was taxiing out.

The two aircrafts were subsequently, grounded on Wednesday after the collision while passengers aboard the Turkish Airlines were asked to disembark.

Aviation staff say that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) were notified and expected to issue a press released soon.

Reports say that numerous ground collisions have occurred at the Murtala International Airport over the years. This is particularly due to space constraints at the airport.

The space constraints are said to be a fallout of the increased aircraft traffic that has stretched the aprons beyond their limits initial planned for the airport.
