Two students of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have been found dead at a private hostel in the school.
The incident is alleged to have occurred on Sunday, 20th Febuaury at the William’s Lodge, a private hostel outside of the university campus.
Both students are believed to have died several days before without the neighbors knowing.
A parent of one of the deceased, identified as Adaeze, got worried after calling her phones endlessly without any response. She then decided to report to the police.
The security operatives accompanied by one of the parents of the female student stormed the hostel to check on her only to find her lifeless body as well as that of her colleague.
Reacting to the development, the state police said: “there was no stench. The girl was not answering calls which got parents worried. They reported to the Police who forced the door open. No mark of violence on the bodies.
“They died apparently from carbon monoxide poisoning from generator fumes. The generator was found in a closed place facing the room. The cause of death will be ascertained after autopsy.”
Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka also called UNIZIK or NAU in short is a Federal university in Nigeria.
It consists of two campuses in Anambra State. Its main campus is located in Awka (the capital of Anambra State) while the other campus is located at Nnewi.
