A 400-level student of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Warriz Said, popularly known as Captain Walz has allegedly beaten a lecturer, Mrs Zakariyyah to stupor.
Reports say that the student was enraged after an altercation with the lecturer concerning his academics.
Walz who is said to a rapper failed to carry out the mandatory Students Industrial Work Scheme (SIWES) implying he could not graduate with his colleagues.
He is alleged to have attempted to lure his supervisor to award him marks regardless of the fact that he did not do the exercise, but she rejected his entreaties.
Reports also say the student was enraged and chased the lecturer into an office where he dealt her endless punches.
While trying to escape, the lecturer tripped and fell while the student attempted to strangle her until she passed out.
The university’s Director of Public Relations, Mr Kunle Akogun confirmed the incident to reports on Saturday night by telephone.
According to him, “a visit by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, in company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Oladiji, the Director, University Health Services, Dr Odunola and a few other staff to the victim and her family, this morning, Saturday, confirmed that.”
“They described the incident as unfortunate and sad and assured that justice will be done on the matter.
Mr Akogun added that, “He ordered proper care of the victim on the bill of the university.”
The management of the university has condemned the incident and vowed to take necessary action.
