University Workers Get Spiritual Over Months Of Unpaid Salaries”

Labour unions comprising university workers in Ondo State have gone spiritual in the face of hunger and unpaid salaries.

The workers called its member to embark on fasting and prayer in line with their different faiths in order that God may compel their employers to pay the arrears of wages owed them.

The labour unions comprise the Joint Action Committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), the Nigeria Association of Academic Technologists and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Politechnics.

The call for fasting and prayer was made today, December 1st by the Secretary, JAC of the Ondo State Tertiary Institution, Peter Akindehinde.

An excerpt of the memo:

“Arising from the meeting of the Joint Action Committee of Ondo owned tertiary institutions held at OAUSTECH on November 24, 2020, members are informed that Tuesday, December 1, 2020 has been declared a day of fasting and prayer.

“This is not unconnected with unpaid salaries, deductions and other allowances.

“Members are to observe the fasting and prayer in line with their beliefs and gather at noon to offer prayers.

“We believe that the owner of the universe will intervene.”
