Unknown Gunmen Abduct 200 Islamiyya Students, Kill 1

At least 200 students of Islamiyya (Arabic) school, Tegina, Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State have been abducted by heavily armed unknown gunmen.

1 person died in the incident while another was critically injured during the attack which happened at 4:30pm on Sunday.

A resident told newsmen that the Salihu Tanko Islamiyya school was built by a retired Immigration Officer.

The Islamiyya school is not the regular Sangaya Islamic boarding school but a more conventional one where parents send their children on a daily basis to enable them acquire Islamic education.

The police command is yet to give a public statement on the incident but this is coming five months after men of the Nigeria Police rescued 80 students of Islamiyya and 4 others by gunmen in Mahuta town, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.
