UNN Year 1 Student Kidnapped, Captors Demand Ransom

News - Women's Perspective

A first-year student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Chukwuemeka Philomina Ekpereamaka has been kidnapped.

She was first reported missing on Sunday around midday at the Balewa Hostel within the university campus.

Ekpereamaka had informed her hostel mates that she was going downstairs to meet her boyfriend but failed to return.

However, in the early hours of Monday, July 15, 2024, the abductors contacted Ekpereamaka’s roommate, Chioma Ogbonna, demanding a ransom of N5.5 million for her safe release.

The university management quickly acknowledged the situation, assuring the community that an official statement would be issued by the end of Tuesday.

As the university community grappled with these distressing events, discussions on campus security protocols and safety measures intensified. Both students and faculty called for enhanced security and vigilance to prevent similar incidents.
