The Imo State Police Command has debunked reports that, Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu was kidnapped.

They confirmed that the son-in-law of the former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha was arrested by its men and not kidnappers.

TVC News reports that the State police Command confirmed the development soon after the initial assumptions.

Nwosu was arrested during Sunday worship service at St Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama Obieri in Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State.

The former governor’s aide was picked up amid sporadic gunshots while on an outing service with his family members after the burial of his mother, Jemimah Nwosu.

A police source is quoted as telling Punch that it was indeed police officers from Abuja that arrested him.

According to the source who pleaded anonymity, “Police from the IGP’s Special Force Unit arrested him. He was not kidnapped.”

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam also confirmed in a press statement titled, ‘Arrest of Uche Nwosu,’ that Nwosu was in custody

The statement read in part that “This is to inform the general public that chief Uche Nwosu was not kidnapped but was arrested by the police and Imo state police command is aware of the arrest and presently he is in police custody.

“This is to refute the earlier news that has been making rounds on social media that he was kidnapped by unknown persons/gunmen.

“The Commissioner of Police while using this medium to assure Imolites of the command’s commitment in ensuring the safety of lives and prosperity this Yuletide season, advised the general public to always shun fake news.

Uche Nwosu (born August 8, 1975), is a Nigerian politician and former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Imo State Government from 2011 to 2013.
