A US-based Nigerian medical practitioner based in the United States, Dr. Adah Obekpa, has filed a suit to stall the presidential inauguration scheduled for May 29, 2023.
Obekpa filed a motion with the Supreme Court, urging delay in the inauguration, until the resolution of his standing case.
It is not yet clear how the suit would impact the timeline for the presidential swearing-in. However, the legal action adds another layer of complexity to Nigeria’s political landscape.
If the Supreme Court deems it appropriate, the May 29 inauguration could be put on hold, sending shockwaves through the nation’s political system.
On its part, the government has not officially responded to the development. Nevertheless, all political parties and stakeholders are keenly watching.
