The United States Government has slammed a former aide to the Governor of Ogun State, Abidemi Rufai with a 97000-page evidence.
The massive evidence on Rufai who was arrested at JFK Airport on the 14th of May, 2021 borders on conspiracy, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft.
He is now charged with all allegations amounting to nine counts of wire fraud, five counts of aggravated identity theft.
Tessa M Gorman, Acting US Attorney said that Rufai was indicted for his scheme to steal over $350000 in unemployment benefits from the Washington State Employment Security Department.
The prosecutor is said to have submitted the 97000-page materials at the US District for the Western District of Washington at Tacoma, on July 26 against Abidemi Rufai.
The report reads that that Abidemi Rufai used the stolen identities of more than 100 Washington residents to file fraudulent claims with ESD for pandemic-related unemployment benefits.
Other indictments also says that “Rufai also filed fraudulent unemployment claims with Hawaii, Wyoming, Massachusetts, Montana, New York and Pennsylvania.
The report says that he used variations of a single email address in a manner intended to evade automatic detection by fraud systems.
By using variations of email addresses, he made it appear as the claims were meaning from different email accounts.
The application which was filed on the 3rd of August, 2021 apparently based its assessment of the complexity of the case on the volume and nature of the evidence filed by the prosecution.
