US Issues Travel Advisory to Its Citizens Going to Nigeria

The US has issued a travel advisory to American citizens wishing to come to Nigeria.

In a statement issued on it’s website, it advised them to reconsider travels to Nigeria due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping and maritime crime.

it further stated that travellers should read the Department of State’s COVID-19 page before planning any international travel and indeed recommends that the entire Travel advisory be studied ahead of travel plans.

States to avoid completely:
  • Borno, Yobe and Norther Adamawa due to terrorism and kidnapping
  • Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Katsina and Zamfara due to kidnapping
  • Coastal areas of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta and Rivers states (with the exception of Port Harcourt) due to crime, kidnapping and maritime crime.

The statement reads further that “Violence can flare up between communities of farmers and herders in rural areas. There is frequent maritime crime in the Gulf of Guinea.

“The US government as limited ability to provide emergency services to US citizens in many areas of Nigeria due to security conditions.

Nonetheless, the Department of state gave a list of precautionary measures to take should anyone still insist on travelling. It also advised that travellers should read the entire Travel Advisory.
