Ivorian Vice President, Daniel Kablan Duncan has resigned his position from the country’s cabinet.

President Alassane Ouattara’s Chief of Staff, Patrick Achi, announced that the Vice President resigned for personal reasons.

According to him, “The President of the Republic proceeded on Wednesday, July 8, to the signing of a decree terminating the functions of Daniel Kablan Duncan as Vice President of the Republic. 

According to Achi, “Duncan handed his resignation to the president on personal grounds on February 27.

“After several talks, the last of which took place on Tuesday, July 7, President Alassane Ouattara took note of his resignation and proceeded to sign the decree terminating Daniel Kablan Duncan.” 

The statement adds that the President “would like to pay tribute to a great servant of the state, a man of power and commitment.”

There have been speculations over several weeks that 77-year old Duncan would be leaving offices.

He leaves barely 1 week after the sudden death of the Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly

The Vice President had served Cote D’Ivoire as Prime Minister from 1993 – 1999 during the Henri Konan Bedie’s administration and under the current president between 2012 and 2017.

He became the first Vice President in 2017, in Cote D’Ivoire to hold a post created under the new constitution that was adopted in 2016.
