A video has emerged showing the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje with his wife and friends mocking a ministerial nominee, Maryam Shetty Shettima.
Shetty was removed from the list of nominees minutes before her screening. She was replaced with another lady from the same state of Kano.
There had been claims that Ganduje influenced the removal of Maryam Shetty for Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, closely associated with his family.
The change drew significant attention, with many linking the nomination to Bunkure’s friendship with Ganduje’s daughter, Amina.
A trending video surfaced, showcasing Ganduje, his wife Hafsat, Bunkure, and others laughing when Maryam Shetty’s name was mentioned.
As they laughed, a voice which spoke in Hausa said , “the head has now fit the cap.”
“When we heard that they brought one Maryam, Maryam who?”, to which another voice replied “Shetty”.
At this point, Bunkure, Hafsat Ganduje (popularly referred to as Gwaggo) and Ganduje could all be seen laughing.
“I said who is Shetty? We were confused, I said from where is she from? They said Kano,” the first speaker continued.
In the second video, Ganduje, who was apparently responding is heard saying “I want them to call out Gwaggo again. They have opened a new chapter of ignorance. We are thankful this one (referring to Bunkure) has joined the caucus.”
Bunkure, once a commissioner for Higher Education under Ganduje’s governance, is believed to have been influenced by Amina Ganduje for her roles.
Meanwhile, both Shetty and Bunkure have long shared academic and personal histories, attending the same institutions and being part of the same friend circles.
