A vigilante group in Yenegoa has arrested 2 female robbers who snatched N5,000 from a teenage girl.
Reports say that the 2 young women, Anna Samuel (21) and Better Okorie (23) were nabbed by the local vigilante for robbing one Boma Sunday of the said sum of money.
A 3rd suspect who is male, Godwin Sunday, led the 2 girls in the operation at Tombia Market in Yenegoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria on Wednesday, 28th April.
Unfortunately for them, men of the local security group were promptly alerted.
Information gathered says that the 15-year-old victim was standing by the roadside close to the market, waiting to board a tricycle.
She was on her way home after shopping in the market when the three-member gang accosted her and robbed her of the money in plain sight.
Narrating her experience, Boma said that, “After they collected the money, I raised an alarm that drew the attention of the vigilante. I didn’t even know they were around. It was at that point I saw them chasing the criminals and apprehended them close to the roundabout as they tried to escape.“
The Chairman of the State Vigilante Service, Hon Doubiye Alagba confirmed the arrest to newsmen. He warned other criminals who operate in and around Tombia roundabout and other parts of Bayelsa to turn a new leaf or face the full wrath of the law.
According to him, “I am using this medium to call on members of the public to always be vigilant and security conscious of their environment at all times. It is only by doing so that you can quickly notice the presence of criminal elements and void being attacked and robbed.
He added that, “We have handed them over to Operation You Akpo, a special unit of the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police force for further investigations and subsequent prosecution.”
