Violent Cult Clashes at Coker-Aguda, Surulere Leave 3 Dead

News - Women's Perspective

The notorious rival cult clashes in Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area, Surulere, Lagos have left at least 3 people dead.

Reports say that one of the deceased was lured out of his house on Saturday night and killed by members of a rival cult group.

Just before he was killed, members of his group tormented residents in the Adetola, Wily Omiyi and Akinyele streets until the early hours of Sunday.

The endless and deafening gunshots left residents running for safety in different directions.

By Sunday morning, the Aguda cult group is reported to have gone to Ijesha where they allegedly killed Tunde, the son of the Oba.

The Ijesha gang then returned at about 10:00am to retaliate the attack and the killing.

Residents of both communities have called on the Commissioner of Police and the State Government to come to their aid and save them from the endless rivalry between the gangs.

They also urged the Coker-Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman to power the street lights to expose those penetrating evil in the cover of darkness.

Mrs Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, LCDA Chairman, said that the perpetrators have been arrested by the police.

According to her, “The security operatives have restored normalcy to the area. A lot of those boys causing mayhem have been arrested.

I have repeated it that the council will not tolerate acts of violence and deviant behaviour. We will go after the perpetrators and prosecute them,” Akinyemi-Obe added.

By Sunday evening, the police had stationed its men at Pako bus stop, the spot where the most violent clashes occur.

Residents also confirm that normalcy has returned to the area.

However, they have taken precautionary measures to avoid their residencies becoming theatres of war.

According to #iKponmwosa @ORONSofGOD· “This is crazy. I was in Aguda just two days ago & I was told that street cult war is now so rampant that most streets around Pako-Ijesha axis have been fenced in &gated to reduce the night incursions &killings. @rrslagos767@followlasg@jidesanwoolu make una help oh.”
