Violent protests broke out in Karu, a satellite community in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, Sunday, 9th of May.
Reports say the violence followed the death of a commercial motorcycle rider resulting in other riders destroying vehicles and attacking residents of the area.
The cause of the tension is not yet known but the protests started at about 11:00am forcing churches to close their gates while residents remained indoors.
However, Daily Sun reports say that late Okada rider was shot at and killed by a policemen. The protests started peacefully but soon degenerated into violence.
Worship centres which were already opened for Sunday service forced members to remain indoors to avoid attacks by the rampaging protesters.
The police and army have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy. Soldiers were deployed according to the publication on the orders of the Commander, Army headquarters Garrison, MajorGeneral Dahiru to assist the police quell the escalating tension.
