A virus deadlier than Covid-19 has emerged in India. The outbreak led to the death of a 12-year-old boy.
Scientists confirm that the Nipah virus is way more fatal than the rampaging Covid-19 and is likely to be the next plague in the world.
The disease comes with a high mutation rate and has no cure yet.
The World Health Organisation says that the mortality rate ranges from 40% to 75% which is scaringly excessive compared to the current pandemic that has already claimed millions of lives across the world.
The mortality for Covid-19 is 1%.
The Centre for Disease and Prevention states that, “This virus has been shown to spread from person to person in these outbreaks, raising concerns about potential for NiV to cause a global pandemic.”
It is said to have been spread from pigs to farmers in Malaysia in 1999 and has an incubation period of 45 days. That makes it possible to transmit between people before symptoms become obvious.
Reports say the 12-year-old boy had visited some hospitals which left him exposed. Luckily, his contacts returned negative when tested.
Among its symptoms are swelling, seizures, vomiting and brain swelling.
