Coronavirus Pandemic News - Women's Perspective

Nigerian governors yesterday agreed on an extended 2-week lockdown nationwide to stem the rising cases of the coronavirus disease.

The consensus is that there will be no movement between states for the next 2 weeks. Each governor will therefore decide whether to impose or relax existing stay home orders within their individual states.

The decision to impose interstate lockdown is premised on the rising cases of infections of the very deadly pulmonary virus disease.

According to the chairman of the governors’ forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state, the measure will enable states manage the cases they have and stem chances of importation from neighbouring states.

The governors also agree to set up covid-19 committees at regional levels. The committees will be headed by health commissioners.

There are currently 782 confirmed cases of #COVID19 with 117 reported in only 1 day.

According to Governor Fayemi, “We are very concerned. If you look at the number of times we met over the last one month. We’ve had 5 meetings which focussed exclusively on covid-19 and its spread and its concomitant effects on the Nigerian citizens.”

The governors are of the opinion that the country has not reached its peak in the pandemic yet. Fayemi advises that every Nigerian citizen must take the pandemic very seriously.

Incidentally, a number of state governors have suffered the disease and were glad to see the end within the shortest time possible. Unanimously therefore, the Governors agree on another 2-week lockdown nationwide.
