In a meeting held in Abuja, they called for a total eradication of banditry and kidnaping to enable children go to school and participate in national development.

The Chairperson of the forum and wife of the Governor of Kaduna State, Hadiza El-Rufai told newsmen that they are ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to combat gender-based violence and drug abuse.

She added that the closure of schools is a short term plan to tackle the kidnapping of school children, but that security agencies must defeat the menace of banditry for children to return to school.

Hadiza insisted that, “We are all concerned about kidnapping of school children. The short-term plan is about closing down the schools as Kaduna and Zamfara States are doing.

“You don’t put the children in danger by taking them to school. The bandits must be defeated at all costs.

“We cannot continue like this. We must defeat the bandits for children to go to school. The short term, you must shut down the schools.”

On her part, the vice chairperson of the forum and First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Olufunke Abdulrazak said that they will ensure the sustainability of the programme even beyond 2023. This is to the extent that their successors would see the merits and sustain the already laid foundation.
