Some Nigerian Army personnel have complained that they have not been paid their January salaries in spite of a statement from the Army headquarters that they have all been paid.

Nigerian Army Spokesperson, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu had said in a statement on Saturday that all soldiers have been paid January salaries.

According to him, “I’m assuring you that January salary has been disbursed and I do have personnel working with me who have confirmed to me that they have been paid their salary.

The Cable spoke with soldiers who across different parts of the country and pleaded anonymity said they were yet to receive the salaries.

The news platform quoted a senior military officer with 2Div Ibadan as saying that, “Why is the authority not saying the truth ? I am yet to receive my January salary, and that’s the truth.

“It’s a sad situation that I have to borrow money to keep my family in the last weeks. You know how January could be sometimes.”

Another soldier at the army’s division 1 Kaduna said, “nobody in the division has seen January salary.

“Maybe new soldiers from 21NA are the ones that have been paid, but everyone else is still hoping.”
