A whiteman went fund-raising for a 20-year-old Nigerian man identified as Donte Franklin who treks 17 miles daily to fend for his family.
Michael Lynn had observed Franklin trekking twice to work and decided to help alleviate his suffering.
According to the young man, he had no other means of going to work as he needed to provide for his family
Lynn said he was moved to help the day he saw the Nigerian man trekking in scorching heat so he gave him a ride in his car and thereafter decided to raise at least $2,000 dollars for him.
The call for help led to good Samaritans donating over $52,000 (N23 million) and still counting.
Posting his gofundme call on Facebook, Michael Lynn told his friends that,
“Friends I gotta share this with you!!! I’m driving down 12th St. I see this kid walking down the street as I go about my way… I ran an errand down on 134th & Western & as I came back around to go to my facility on 24th & Janeway I see him again & he’s nearly to 27th and Janeway!
“I asked the young man if he needs a ride he says yes sir! I said I seen you way back there and you’re walking along ways brother! Where are you going?
“He had started from his apartment in front of Moore High School and he was walking to Buffalo & he was walking to Buffalo wild wings out on I-44 service road in front of the Westside Walmart to go to work!! Roughly a 7 mile walk!!
“I couldn’t believe it!! this young man is 20 years old his name is Dante Franklin …
“You notice he doesn’t have a shirt on it’s HOT!! but when we got there he pulled his shirt out of his backpack and it was a buffalo wild wings shirt …Before I left I asked him do you have any money to eat he said no sir .. So I give him 20 bucks and went on my way..
“I’m thinking this young man is truly on a mission to survive!! During the trip over there he told me a lot about himself because I asked ..
“I just want to wish him well. May God bless him. and I hope his days get better for him! He regularly works at the Buffalo wild wings in South Moore & he is Going to fill in at the other location today to help them out walking 7 miles!!! All I can say is wow!”
Franklin told the Fox News affiliate in Oklahoma that, “I really don’t care if it gets tiring. I just have to keep pushing. I walk just to make my family proud.
He added that, “I haven’t missed a shift at all.“
“I can really help my family with this,” he said. “It’s just a really good blessing.”
Lynn hopes his kindness to the 20-year-old Nigerian man would spur other people to help. According to him, “If it can make just one person go help someone else, that’s all that matters.”
