Mariya recounted how their journey began on December 29, 2007, describing her late husband as her strength, joy, and guiding force.

You brought so much beauty and joy to my life. I promised to love you forever,” she said.

She expressed her heartbreak over losing him, calling their love a “lifelong fairytale” cut short by his untimely death. Mariya described Lagbaja as a God-fearing man who not only led the family with love and wisdom but also inspired them to deepen their faith. She took comfort in believing he is now “dancing joyfully in heaven.”

Despite the demands of his military career, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja made family a priority. Mariya recalled his hands-on parenting style, from helping with homework to solving family problems or simply playing with their children.

To us, you are our hero, and you will never be forgotten,” she said, emphasizing the indelible mark he left on their lives.

Her tribute also revealed the affectionate dynamics of their relationship, as she fondly remembered the little gestures that defined their bond.

Who will call me ‘The Boss’? Who will give me that morning hug? Sleep on, my love, until we meet again,” she wrote.

Mariya vowed to keep his memory alive, cherishing their shared moments and the legacy he left behind. She ended her tribute with a promise to honor him by embodying the values he stood for.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s passing has left a void not only in his family but also in the Nigerian military, where he was known for his dedication and leadership. His death has drawn widespread condolences, with many praising his service and expressing solidarity with his grieving family.
