The former Acting Managing Director of the Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Joy Nunieh has revealed why Godswill Akpabio sacked her.
Nunieh made her revelations during an interview with the Senate ad-hoc committee investigating the NDDC on Friday. She accused the Minister of the Niger Delta Commission of corruption and and attempting to force her to take an oath of secrecy meant to coerce her to cover up fraud at the commission.
According to her, Akpabio threatened to sack her from the day she was sworn in as Managing Director of the NDDC because she refused to be part of any compromise.
Describing why she was sacked, Nunieh said that on the day of her inauguration,
‘He said to me in the car, “Madam, MD, if you don’t do what I say, the same pen which I used to sign your paper, is the same pen I will use to remove you.”
‘He said the first thing I should do when I get to Port Harcourt is to change the dollars in the NDDC account. I was scared to do that and he claimed I have a poverty mentality that I am afraid of money.’
‘All of you know that he accused me of refusing to spend money. It is strange today, its about money.
Speaking further, the former NDDC boss said that Akpabio has perfected the act of using proxies and subordinates to sign documents as he would never do so himself.
