Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has described the coalition of opposition political parties against President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general election as a waste of time.
Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said the coalition against Tinubu will fail in 2027, stressing that no prominent Nigerian is part of the coalition talks.

The PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, and the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, are spearheading the coalition.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV on Friday, April 18, 2025, Fayose said: “The coalition is a d3ad horse ab initio. Tell me one positive person, well-respected Nigerian who has given his voice in support of this coalition.
“If anybody is fighting out of issues with his party, he can resolve that with his party. The PDP governors’ actions and statement in Ibadan are to tell Atiku that we are not with you, we are going nowhere, we have our own identity.
“So, that coalition is just in the imagination of people trying to bring it to fruition. So, let me say to you, it’s a waste of time.”
The former governor added that the coalition will fail because the governors elected on the platform of the PDP are not with Atiku, saying they (governors) are fighting for their own political survival.
Fayose stated that something is fundamentally wrong with the PDP, which needs to be fixed before the party can talk about strongly challenging the APC.
The PDP governors had, on Monday, April 14, declared that the party would not join or merge with any other political party ahead of the 2027 general election.
The governors stated that the PDP, as a major opposition party, would welcome any party, association or group that was willing to join it, with a view to wrestling power and enthroning good leadership in 2027.
