Why Do Men Fall Asleep After Lovemaking ?

Wellness

Many women have queried why their male partners fall asleep or completely burn out after most lovemaking sessions.

They ask the correlation between intimacy and snoring no matter how passionate the encounter might be and state that it is an annoying part of any sexual relationship.

Some women might interpret their partner’s sleepiness as an emotional slight and may even compel them to think they are nothing more than the object of his sexual release.

It might help to see his sleepiness in a different light.

So why do men get so tired and fall asleep after lovemaking ?

There are several reasons no matter how passionate and energising as Shadrack Ebimodenghan suggests. He says it has nothing to do with a woman’s personality or performance in bed.

  • Environmental factors:

Intimacy typically takes place in the bedroom and often in the evening, with the lights off. Our brains associate the bedroom with bedtime and it’s only natural to feel sleepy when put in this setting.

However, you can adjust the environmental factors by engaging in lovemaking with the lights on, or in the afternoon. That way, you engage in a bit of post-total conversation.

  • Prolactin discharge:

For men, the body produces a cocktail of brain chemicals immediately after an orgasm and one of these hormones is called Prolactin.

This hormone is why it can take so long before a guy gets in the mood again (the ‘refractory period’).

Prolactin also inhibits dopamine, the brain chemical that helps you stay awake. Research indicates that the body produces four times as much prolactin after intimacy, thereby creating more significant side-effects like fatigue.

  • Increased oxytocin levels:

Oxytocin and vasopressin, two other chemicals released during orgasm are also associated with sleep. Their release frequently accompanies that of melatonin, the primary hormone that regulates our body clocks.

Oxytocin is also thought to reduce stress levels, So the three of these hormones combined lead to relaxation and sleepiness.

Does it happen to only men ?

It is not just men. Women fall asleep after intimacy too. However, women’s bodies react differently. For them, the sensations during orgasm are stimulus.

So, they could be more willing to go for a second round.

How can you prevent your man from falling asleep after intimacy ?
  1. Try having intimacy before breakfast/dinner
  2. Avoid traditional at-the-end-of-a-tiring-day lovemaking
  3. If you wish to talk with your husband and share important feelings with him after intimacy, but he doesn’t fell like talking, then try to speak first about anything you know he’s interested in. After you get him involved, start your conversation.

So, if your partner falls asleep after lovemaking don’t take it as an insult. Their body is producing post-orgasm chemicals that can lead to tiredness and relaxation.
