Samuel Akpobome, 18, who was detained by the police in Edo State after reportedly killing his mother for ritualistic payment, has revealed how he carried out the deed.
Christiana Ighoyivwi, the victim, was asleep when she was strangled at her home on Market Road in Ologbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state, according to Akpobome, who spoke to Punch Metro on Wednesday.
Along with more than 80 other suspects detained for a variety of crimes, the adolescent was paraded by the police commissioner, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, and claimed to have afterwards engaged in sexual activity with his mother’s corpse.
deceased’s youngest kid, Akpobome, who is from Delta State, claimed to have followed directions from an unnamed native doctor.
According to him, “I wanted to use her (Christiana) for money rituals. I strangled her; she was sleeping when I strangled her at about 5am. I was advised by a native doctor in Oghara to kill her. After killing her, I slept with her. The native doctor told me to do so and keep her corpse for two days.
“The native doctor told me to kill my mother and sleep with her corpse. But he did not tell me the number of days to sleep with her. My mother did not offend me. I killed her because of money.”
The suspect also said that his luck ran out when his grandma discovered her daughter’s lifeless body and called the police, which resulted in his capture.
He added, “I could not find a place to keep it (corpse). As I was about coming out, I did not know that my grandmother was sitting outside.
“When I opened the door, my grandmother sighted the corpse inside the room and raised the alarm that drew the attention of neighbours.”
According to the commissioner, who was parading the suspect, Patrick Ogiegbede reported the offence to the Ologbo Police Station at around 6 a.m. on October 29.
